Can A Divorce Galvanise Your Career Or Ruin It?

The answer of course is yes! It could do either depending on the kind of man you are, and the specific circumstances you find yourself dealing with. Let me outline a couple of scenarios.

Galvanise Your Career?

Maybe you felt trapped by your marriage now that the shackles are unlocked you’re all systems go. Perhaps you feel a new sense of independence and freedom and the world is your oyster?

Maybe the Queen song (can you tell I’m a fan?)

Don’t Stop Me Now sums up exactly where you are right now?

I say, go for it. Use this time to re-energise your career. There are worse things you could be doing with that energy, right. Well, okay, maybe you’re doing that too, but heck, who am I to question. Life, they say, is what you make it.

Ruin Your Career?

You may have read the above and wondered what planet I just landed from. Maybe you feel the rug has been well and truly pulled from under you.

Maybe you feel so completely at sea with your recent divorced status that the idea of achieving anything anymore seems almost impossible to imagine. My advice to you is to seek help.

Now. I know, this is probably the last thing you want to do and may well be the biggest challenge of the lot. I promise you this, if you do manage to find the courage (and it does take courage, stacks of it) it will be the best thing you can do.

It doesn’t matter who you ask, maybe it’s a friend, a family member, your doctor or a counsellor.

Choose someone you can trust implicitly, and just do it. The most common misconception is that asking for help is a sign of weakness, but the truth is we only feel like that when it’s us who is asking.

If you think about the last person who asked for your help, did you think they were weak? Heck no! You probably recognised the strength in their asking and admired them for it.

So please ask. It may just save your career.
